Apparently Quincy Jones‘ daughters took him aside and let him know that his recent interviews weren’t okay.
In a lengthy Twitter statement, Jones said that his six daughters had staged a “family intervention” after his interviews with Vulture and GQ went viral.
“I HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON!” Jones promised in his tweet, according to USA Today.

He continued, “Let me tell you, I am so grateful for my daughters because they are not afraid to stand up to their daddy. I am an imperfect human & I’m not afraid to say it. I’m sorry & I’m not afraid to say it.”
The interview you had to read to believe
Quincy Jones’ glorious and rambling interview with journalist David Marchese for Vulture was the gift that kept on giving.
Jones, who at almost 85 years old, seems to have given up social graces and is more than willing to drop dimes, nickels and quarters offer unsolicited opinions, and basically just tell everybody’s business.
From his thoughts on hip-hop to dating Ivanka Trump to his outing who was having sex with whom (and what), Uncle Q has some profanity-laced stories to tell. It’s classic ornery old man conversation at its best. We can only imagine the “Dad, what did you say now?!” texts from his daughters Kidada and Rashida.
The Vulture interview was good and long, but chock-full of juicy tidbits and insights into the illustrious musician’s 66 year career.

Here were some of the juicier bits:
“What were your first impressions of the Beatles?
That they were the worst musicians in the world. They were no-playing motherfuckers. Paul was the worst bass player I ever heard. And Ringo? Don’t even talk about it.”
Marlon Brando had sex with James Baldwin, Richard Pryor, and Everyone Else
[Marlon] used to go cha-cha dancing with us. He could dance his ass off. He was the most charming motherfucker you ever met. He’d fuck anything. Anything! He’d fuck a mailbox. James Baldwin. Richard Pryor. Marvin Gaye.
He slept with them? How do you know that?
[Frowns.] Come on, man. He did not give a fuck! You like Brazilian music?”
“What’s stirred everything up? Is it all about Trumpism?
It’s Trump and uneducated rednecks. Trump is just telling them what they want to hear. I used to hang out with him. He’s a crazy motherfucker. Limited mentally — a megalomaniac, narcissistic. I can’t stand him. I used to date Ivanka, you know.
Wait, really?
Yes, sir. Twelve years ago. Tommy Hilfiger, who was working with my daughter Kidada said, “Ivanka wants to have dinner with you.” I said, “No problem. She’s a fine motherfucker.” She had the most beautiful legs I ever saw in my life. Wrong father, though.”
Quincy Jones also spills the beans about Michael Jackson, Harvey Weinstein, and a myriad of other people and topics, while refusing to talk about his close friends Bill and Hillary Clinton and Bill Cosby.
The result of ‘wordvomit’
Quincy Jones said that his interviews were the result of factors including his own age and the fact that he gave up drinking a few years ago.
“Even at 85, it’s apparent that ‘wordvomit’ and bad-mouthing is inexcusable,” he admitted.
While Quincy Jones didn’t publicly retract some of his wilder claims, he did say that he had reached out to friends for a more private apology. But he also wanted the world to know that his interviews didn’t fit his message and his goal of fighting bigotry in all its forms.

“But when you live a public life you have a responsibility to be an example & since I do live a public life I wanted to make a public apology,” he wrote, adding, “I am sorry to anyone to whom my words offended & I’m especially sorry to my friends who are still here with me & to those who aren’t.”
“Thank you for calling me out when I’ve clearly made a mistake…many mistakes,” he said. “I hear ALL of you & I thank you.”
Quincy Jones ended it with the following sign-off: “Love an 85-year-old bow-legged man who is still learning from his mistakes.”
