Nigerian army rescues girls kidnapped by Boko Haram
Terrorist militant organization Boko Haram kidnapped children from a school in northeastern Nigeria on Monday. The insurgents rolled into Dapchi heavily armed in trucks. The Nigerian military rescued 76 girls Wednesday morning. They also discovered the dead bodies of two girls. At least 13 students remain missing. Boko Haram is the same organization responsible for the kidnapping of more than 270 Nigerian school girls in 2014. That tragedy sparked the #BringBackOurGirls movement. Some of the girls in the 2014 incident were rescued, but about 100 remain missing.

Donald Trump Proposes Arming Teachers
After listening to emotional stories at the White House about school safety, the president of the United States suggested that teachers be armed with guns. “If you had a teacher who was adept with the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly,” he said, while suggesting that schools could arm up to 20% of their teachers. “This would be obviously only for people who were very adept at handling a gun, and it would be, it’s called concealed carry, where a teacher would have a concealed gun on them,” he continued.

Lupita Nyong’o to star in film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s autobiography
Black Panther actress Nyong’o is set to star as Patricia Noah in an adaptation of Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, the best-selling autobiography of Trevor Noah, the current host of The Daily Show. Noah grew up in apartheid South Africa to a Black mother and white father, making him literally “born a crime,” as the book title suggests.

African American Women Earned a Silver Medal in the Two-Woman Bobsled Competition
Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs, both African American, walked away with silver medals in the Winter Olympics for the two-woman bobsled race. It’s the third Olympic medal for Meyers Taylor who is an Olympic veteran dating back to the 2010 games. The U.S. women’s bobsled team has medaled in the Olympics at every game since 2002.
