The fabulous, the great, the iconic, RuPaul will finally be honored with his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A staple figure in both LGBTQ and pop culture arenas for more than 30 years will receive the honor on March 16.
The Emmy-winning host of RuPaul’s Drag Race and GLAAD Media awards’ fave will be given his own star directly outside of World of Wonder, the production company that has helped make his popular reality a huge hit. He will be joining over 2,600 other celebrity names added along Hollywood Boulevard since 1958.
When the honorees were revealed last year, The Gay Times reported that RuPaul said, “Sweet Cheeses! My heart is beating so fast right now!”
In great company
After hundreds of nominations, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the Hollywood Walk of Fame class of 2018, which includes the posthumous induction of Bernie Mac. Other honorees include Anthony Anderson, Taraji P. Henson, Niecy Nash, Shonda Rhimes, Ice T, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Zoe Saldana, Mary J. Blige, Shonda Rimes, and Lin-Manuel Miranda to name a few.
“The Walk of Fame Selection Committee is pleased to announce our newest honorees to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Vin Di Bona, chairman of the selection committee for 2017. “The Committee looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected an eclectic group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world.”
“As a Walk of Famer myself, I know these honorees will remember the dedication of their stars with great memories and will be proud that they are part of Hollywood’s history now and forever. We look forward to their big day as the Walk of Fame Class of 2018 becomes cemented one by one on the most famous sidewalk in the world!”
This news comes on the announcement of season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which is set to air on Thursday, March 22 on VH1.
