Minister Louis Farrakhan is most well known for “hateful, disgusting, racist remarks” — at least thats what the GOP and anchors at Fox News are telling the public.
This week, Republican Congressman Todd Rokita is calling on the House of Representatives to condemn the Nation of Islam leader and putting pressure on several House Democrats who have had ties to him.

Tuesday, Rokita introduced a resolution citing Farrakhan for “promoting ideas that create animosity and anger” toward the Jewish community and condemning “all manifestations of expressions of racism, anti-Semitism, and ethnic or religious intolerance.”
Some are speculating this is a response to a recent speech Farrakhan gave in which he stated, “White folks are going down. And Satan is going down. And Farrakhan, by God’s grace, has pulled the cover off of that Satanic Jew and I’m here to say your time is up, your world is through.”
“There is no place in our civil discourse for this clear anti-Semitism and hate for another group of human beings,” Rokita said in a statement. “I urge my House colleagues to join me in condemning Louis Farrakhan’s hateful and anti-Semitic attacks, while also reaffirming our nation’s commitment to our Jewish neighbors and our greatest ally, the nation of Israel.”
It’s public knowledge that several House Dems have met with Farrakhan—including Democratic National Committee Deputy Chair Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., who broke bread with him at dinners, attended the Million Man March in 1995, and has even publicly defended him in the past.

Yet, their relationship hit a bump in 2016 when Ellison attempted to distance himself from the minister, most notably during his run for DNC chair in 2016. He even went as far as to write an op-ed for The Washington Post, claiming their relationship was only limited to the 1995 march.
In response, Farrakhan posted a video to Facebook saying both Ellison and Reps. Andre Carson, D-Ind. visited him in 2015 and were now attempting to rewrite history for political gains.
There have also been allegations that a photo of then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., smiling alongside the leader was hidden for 13 years at the request of the Congressional Black Caucus in order to protect Obama’s political career.
Last week, the Republican Jewish Coalition called on seven Congressional Black Caucus members to resign due to their allegiance to Farrakhan.
Their list includes: Ellison, Reps. Maxine Waters of California, Danny Davis of Illinois, Al Green of Texas, Barbara Lee of California, Andre Carson of Indiana, and Gregory Meeks of New York. Both Lee and Meeks have released statements denouncing Farrakhan’s remarks.

“I don’t regard Louis Farrakhan as an aberration or anything, I regard him as an outstanding human being who commands a following of individuals who are learned and articulate and he plays a big role in the lives of thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people,” Rep. Davis told the Daily Caller last month, noting that it “wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary” for him to meet with Farrakhan.
There has not yet been a vote scheduled on the resolution, but Rokita’s office is hoping for bipartisan support.
