Betsy DeVos and her ignorance is maddening and it looks like Rep. Marcia Fudge is just as annoyed as all of us.

Our country’s Education Secretary proved yet again how uninformed she is about issues that matter while being questioned about the Department of Education’s civil rights policies.

“I am concerned about the low performance of your civil rights office,” Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) said during a hearing on Tuesday. “Could you please just state for me the mission of your civil rights office?”

DeVos responded with her usual side-stepping antics.

“The office for civil rights is committed to protecting the civil rights as determined under the law of this land and we do so proudly and with great focus each day,” DeVos replied.

That’s when Fudge took her to task for failing to answer the extremely basic question.

“That’s not the mission statement. Do you know what it is?”

Betsy DeVos served up her usual foolishness and muttered something about not having “memorized” the mission statement in question, and that’s when Fudge just shook her head, visibly frustrated and said, “That’s OK.”

Fudge attempted to dumb things down a bit by asking her to explain what “vigorous enforcement” of civil rights in schools means to her, but still failed to get a straight answer from DeVos.

“It would be following the law and enforcing the law as stated,” replied DeVos.

The exasperated Congresswoman clearly knew that’s all she was going to get and simply responded, “OK.”

Fudge finished up by asking Betsy DeVos if the OCE was enforcing the laws put into effect with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Education Secretary responded, “Yes, indeed.” As if she actually knows what the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is.

We don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Probably both.
