Now we know why Donald Glover won’t be involved in the ‘Deadpool’ animated TV series

Now we know why Donald Glover's heavily-anticipated Deadpool animated TV series was axed by the powers that be at Marvel.

A few months ago, Cosplayers across the world lost their minds when it was announced that Donald Glover’s heavily-anticipated Deadpool animated TV series was being axed by the powers that be, even before it got a chance to see the light of day.

Now, we’re finally getting answers as to why.

Saturday, John Landgraf, the CEO of FX, spoke at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour and divulged that the blame was squarely on thee shoulders of Marvel.

“They [Marvel] didn’t want to do the show that Donald and Stephen [Glover] wrote,” he said. “We would have done the show that Donald and Stephen wrote, but it wasn’t our decision. When Marvel decided not to do that show, we parted company with them, as did Donald and Stephen.”

In March it was announced that three entities — Glover, Marvel, and FX — were parting ways, but for political reasons, the details always seemed way vague. Marvel and FX already work together on Legion and, of course, Glover and FX are still riding high on the huge success with Atlanta,  so the whole things seemed rather strange.

As disappointed fans started to speculate that Glover was at fault, perhaps overbooked and unable to commit to the project, the actor quickly responded to the rumors and clarified he wasn’t “too busy” to do the show. In fact, he even shared pages of the script he and his brother worked on – in a now deleted tweet.

As for the future of the animated Deadpool series, Landgraf is hopeful there may still be a possibility.

“I think that Marvel will revive it,” Landgraf said. “Because they have the rights. They own the IP and they have the rights to do an animated adult series based on any of the X-Men characters, and based on Deadpool specifically.”
