Allen Moore, the mayor of the small village made racial slurs and used the n-word four times while talking to the Crestline police chief Joe Butler. The conversation was caught on Butler’s body camera.
“(He) made numerous racially-insensitive and inappropriate references to minorities,” city council members said in a letter calling for his resignation.
After the video was released earlier this month, Moore apologized but it was too late for some of the 4,400 residents who were outraged and called for his immediate resignation, the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum reported.
Moore wrote, “I do understand this language, regardless of context, is hurtful. I truly apologize for my error in repeating the words spoken by others 45 years ago.”
On Monday, a village council meeting was held with 50 or so community members in attendance.
Gary Almanson, a resident of Crestline, said Moore was a “detriment to our city” and called for his resignation, according to the Telegraph-Forum.
Moore then responded: “I was stepping down at the end of this week, just to let you know.”

Another attendee, Kari Pfeifer said at the meeting: “Not only did the mayor use racial slurs to address members of this community, he also talked negatively about local businesses.”
Pfeifer argues that both Moore and Butler, the police chief, should resign.
“The degrading language used by both was an absolute disgrace to this village,” she said.
“Both the mayor and police chief should be held to a higher standard than what was displayed. Village pride starts right here. It begins with the mayor, the council and the employees of this village.”
According to the Telegraph-Forum, Moore has lived in Crestline since 1960 and served in office since April 4.
