Not quite a year after she returned to gymnastics training, Biles dominated event finals on Saturday where she took home gold in the floor exercise and bronze on the balance beam. She had previously won gold in the team final, individual all-around and vault to go with silver in the uneven bars, according to Bleacher Report.
The 21-year-old earned six medals in the meet and 20 overall in world championships, tied with Svetlana Khorkina of Russia for the most by a female gymnast, reports The New York Times.
As if this isn’t incredible enough, Biles was hospitalized the day before competing with a kidney stone. Despite hospitalization for a kidney stone just a day before the world gymnastics championship in Doha, Simone Biles was dominant in qualifying, showing the world why she is the reigning Olympic champion.
Biles left the hospital without passing the kidney stone she has dubbed the “Doha pearl,” according to TheGrio.
Saturday’s world gymnastics performance comes two years after Biles dominated the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, earning five medals, including four golds. She won gold in the individual all-around, team all-around, floor exercise and vault and bronze in the balance beam, although failed to medal on the uneven bars.
After that performance, Biles took a year off from gymnastics and addressed her decision to do so following her wins yesterday:
“just saying, I get to decide when I have a disappointing performance. Not yall over a year out of the sport. Barely a year back in and my first big competition. I’m proud of myself!” Biles tweeted.
