Wendy Williams sets date for return to talk show after extended leave

After taking a break to focus on getting healthy, "The Queen of All Media" says she's ready to come back to the program that made her a nationwide star

Daytime talk show host Wendy Williams is planning to return to the airwaves on March 4 from an extended break she took to focus on several health issues.

Distributor and producer Debmar-Mercury issued a statement on Williams’ return, according to Deadline: “Wendy Williams is an incredible talent with the most unique voice in daytime. We can’t wait to welcome her back to her iconic purple chair on the set of her show on Monday, March 4th. We so appreciate all of the guest hosts and panelists who filled in for Wendy during this time. These people are, and always will be, true family to the show. And we want to thank all of the loyal and supportive fans who have been with us for 10 years now.

“And of course, we thank our station and business partners, who stepped up in such a supportive way,” the statement said.

Williams, 54, also took a moment to thank the production company and her loyal staff. “Salute to Debmar-Mercury for believing from the start and thanks to my staff for tirelessly holding it down for me.”

Running in syndication, The Wendy Williams Show will air repeat episodes during the week of February 25 and return with original episodes starting on Monday, March 4, when Wendy returns.

At the time of her leave, Williams’ family issued a statement saying that in addition to Williams’ fractured shoulder, she also was experiencing complications from Graves’ disease, and thought it best to take a “necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.”

Williams has had several health concerns in the past. Last year, Wendy took a three-week break from her show to focus on her health following the Graves’ disease diagnosis. She also fainted on-air last Halloween, leaving fans and foes speculating as to the cause. Williams explained that she lost consciousness due to being dehydrated and overheated inside of her heavy Halloween costume.

And in December, fans expressed concern when Williams appeared to slur her words on air. She issued an apology on Instagram, saying she had suffered “a hairline fracture on my upper arm, which hurts like hell,” and the slurring could be attributed to medication she had taken for the pain, according to Deadline.

This is the 10th season for The Wendy Williams Show. The show airs on Fox and is syndicated nationwide by Debmar-Mercury.
