Screenwriter and director, Nia DaCosta, is lending her skill to the creation of Captain Marvel 2. This will make her the first Black woman to direct a Marvel feature film.
The Captain Marvel sequel will be directed by DaCosta and again feature Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a fighter pilot turned superhero. This new film is rumored to further extend into the ever-expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe.

DaCosta’s first big-screen film, Little Woods, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018. Woods tells the story of the opioid addiction in middle America and difficult it is to stop drug dealing. She cast MCU veteran Tessa Thompson to help communicate her vision as the directer and screenwriter.
Thompson serves as one of the first professional connections DaCosta has to the Marvel Universe.
Thompson was originally introduced to the Marvel franchise, as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, and she returned in Avengers: Endgame.
Another MCU vet joining the sequel is writer, Megan McDonnell. McDonnell has written for other Marvel cinematic adaptations, including WandaVision, a series featuring Candy Man’s Teyonah Parris.
Jordan Peele’s Candy Man, slated to make its debut in 2020, has another point of connection to DaCosta. She was one of the writers on the film and brought together DaCosta and Parris.
So the writer, Megan McDonnell, for Captain Marvel 2 wrote Teyonah Parris’ new project, WandaVision. Parris is in the new film Candy Man with the new director of Captain Marvel 2, DaCosta. This proves that in Hollywood, the six-degrees of separation concept is true.
But Parris also has a connection to the Captain Marvel franchise.
Parris plays in WandaVision, an adult Monica Rambeau, a superhero character introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a child in the first Captain Marvel. Rambeau is Lashana Lynch’s on-screen daughter. The original cast also includes Annette Bening, Gemma Chan, Jude Law, and Ben Mendelsohn, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
