A young mother will never be able to hold her son again.

Bailey Bingham of Texas was holding her 1-year old son, Zayden McLean of Cleburne, when a man attempted to carjack her. Bingham was in the parking lot of Texas Health Huguley Hospital on Sunday attempting to hand off her baby to his father when police identified Nico Lorenzo Dela-Fuente as the man jumped into her car and tried to steal it, according to Dallas News.

The father quickly jumped in the vehicle and a scuffle began between the two men but ultimately Dela-Fuente was able to put the car in reverse and hit the mother with her son in her arms. Dela-Fuente then put the car in drive and ran over the child.

Dela-Fuente tried to drive away but he crashed and was held by hospital security until police came.

All of the parties involved were taken to the hospital but McLean passed away.

“There’s a song, ‘Live Like You’re Dying.’ And that’s what he did. He loved laughing. He played,” said Vickie Bingham, McLean’s grandmother. “He was just an angel on Earth, and now he’s an angel in heaven.”

Bingham says her daughter suffered from skull fractures, bleeding in her brain, and road rash. The family set up a GoFundMe, the funds will go toward McLean’s funeral costs and support his mother’s medical bills.

“We just want prayers for our daughter and Zayden’s dad,” said Bingham. “They saw a lot, and they need prayers. They need healing.”

Dela-Fuente is a career criminal and is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. He is being held on $600,000 bail.
