Following a car crash on Sunday morning, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested in Ohio and booked on a weapons charge and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers and EMS responded to a single-vehicle crash near I-76 and and State Route 534 where they observed Porter’s 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE on the left side of the highway “with apparent rollover damage,” accorded to Sports Radio 92.3 the Fan.
Authorities determined “the driver was fatigued at the time of the accident which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.”

Porter, whose full name is Bryan Kevin Porter Jr is a 2019 first-round draft pick. He faces charges of improperly handling firearms in a vehicle, according to Mahoning County sheriff records. He was released on $4,000 bail.
The Cavaliers said in a statement, “We are aware of the situation involving Kevin Porter Jr. and are in the process of gathering information. We have spoken with Kevin and will continue to address this with him privately as the related process evolves.”

Porter’s attorney, Alex Spiro, provided this additional statement: “Mr. Porter was issued a summons for a petty offense and released. We are gathering information and will have further comment at a later point.”
The 20 -year-old rookie emerged last season as a bright spot for the Cavs. After a promising first season, he is considered one of the team’s building blocks despite the challenging year that included a coaching change for the Cavs as well as the season being interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Porter averaged 10 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 50 games.
Porter was a standout at USC before playing professional basketball. He played as a freshman before making the leap to the NBA.
