Ashley Lyons says her son Julian Sandlin was severely burned and his face disfigured by the 8-year-old boy next door on Aug. 6. Lyons says she doesn’t believe it was an accident and instead claims her son was viciously attacked. Julian was drenched in nail polish (which has flammable acetone) and was set on fire with a candle, reports ABC 13.

“My son kept saying ‘Stop. What are you doing?’ Julien kept telling him to leave him alone and that’s when he decided to burn him,” Lyons told the Kansas City Star.

Lyons said a neighbor rescued Julien as he burned by placing a wet towel over him to put out the flames.

“I received a call when I got to court saying that my son was being rushed to the hospital. They said a child drowned my son in fingernail polish remover and lit him on fire, on purpose,” Lyons said.

It will be years before Julian fully recovers Lyons said because his injuries are extensive.

“The burns were so bad that they had to go in immediately and do surgery. They had to scrape his face and all of his skin,” Lyons said.

Lyons son is also seeking answers.

“It’s a very painful process for him,” Lyons told the paper. “There is a lot of anxiety. There is a lot of anger. There is a lot of confusion. He’s trying to maintain the best that he can, for a 7-year-old.”
