Obamas welcome openly gay couple and their children to egg hunt

The White House honored the family at the center of Florida’s battle over same-sex adoptions on Monday.

Martin Gill, his partner and their two adopted sons were guests at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

Prior to the trip Gill said he found the invitation “extremely gratifying” and considered it a “strong statement” against discrimination from President Barack Obama.

Florida is the only state with an outright ban on gay adoptions.

Gill and his partner sued, and in 1998 A juvenile court judge ruled in their favor, allowing Gill his partner to adopt the two brothers they were fostering.

The state has appealed that decision and Gill and his family are currently awaiting a higher court’s decision.
