It’s the kind of question presidents hate: How would you grade your time in office?
“It’s incomplete,” says Obama. “Because until the economy has rebounded fully and people are feeling better, you know, we’ve got a long way to go.”
In recent weeks, the president has been making stops around the country explaining what he’s done so far and why.
Obama recently told a room full of autoworkers,”the reason I did that was because I had confidence in you. I had faith in you.”
While in Detroit he defended the bailout of GM and Chrysler, which are now adding workers to keep up with demand.
He’s reframing the old fights on health care reform, national security and the economy.
House Minority leader John Boehner makes his grade for the President clear.
Boehner says, “The fact is the president’s policies are killing job creation in America, killing our economy, and the American people know it.”
Congressional republicans are turning up the heat as they head home for their summer break.
Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell says there’s still a way to go before midterm results are in.
“If the election were today, we’d certainly have a good day, but it’s a long way until November” says McConnell.
For President Obama, he has little more than three months left to make the grade.
