British boy band One Direction had the honor of being personally invited, by Michelle Obama, to the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll — unfortunately, they already had “prior commitments.” Former U.K. X Factor contestants became the first British band to top the U.S. Billboard 200 charts last month with their debut album. The Huffington Post reports on the story:
One Direction is busy — so busy that they weren’t able to make time to accept Michelle Obama’s invitation to the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll on Easter Monday.
Politico reports that the first lady ran into the British boy band at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday and extended the invitation. A spokesperson for the band, which formed after its members met on the U.K. version of “X Factor” in 2010, told the website that One Direction had to decline the invite, “due to prior commitments.”
Although they won’t be able to make the event, the boys were thrilled to meet the first lady, reports U.K. paper The Sun. Harry Styles reportedly entertained Michelle, who was joined by daughters, Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, by asking how they order pizza at the White House.
