BALTIMORE (AP) — A trial is set to begin for two brothers accused of beating a black teenager while patrolling for a Jewish neighborhood watch in Baltimore.
After six postponements, the trial for Eliyahu and Avi Werdesheim is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning before Baltimore Circuit Judge Pamela White.
The brothers withdrew their request to move the trial because comparisons to the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida would make it hard to find an impartial jury and waived their right to a jury trial.
The Werdesheims are accused in the 2010 beating of a 15-year-old boy in Baltimore. According to charging documents, one threw the teen to the ground and the other hit him in the head with a radio. The brothers have claimed self-defense, saying the teen was holding a nail-studded board.
