Glenn Beck has released his new work of “art” and is calling it “Obama in Pee Pee.“ Also known as “Flobama,” the piece is an Obama toy inside a mason jar of fake urine.
Beck’s piece is in response to a painting by Boston art student Michael D’Antuono that depicts the president in a Christ-like posture. In D’Antuono’s painting is of President Obama standing in front of the U.S. presidential seal with his arms outstretched and a crown of thorns on his head. The piece is called “Truth.”
Beck was insulted, but agreed with D’Antuono’s position that the First Amendment should not be set aside because people’s feelings are hurt.
“[D’Antuono] said First Amendment rights should override somebody’s hurt feelings. He said he’s ‑‑ we should celebrate the fact that we live in a country where we’re all given the freedom to express ourself. The crucifixion of the president was metaphorically. My intent was not to compare him to Jesus,” Glenn said.
“That document says I can’t stop him, and the spirit of that document is that I shouldn’t try,” he said. “Art is in the eye of the beholder and this guy has a right to do this. I think its offensive. I don’t think its close to reality but whatever floats your boat. I support his right to do exactly that. I agree with him that people who are upset should not trump his right to be able to do it and be able to hang it wherever he wants – as long as it’s wanted there,” Glenn said.
On Tuesday, the radio host claimed he drank a lot of water to “make” the piece but later confessed that he actually filled it with beer instead of urine.
Beck’s piece is reportedly going to be sold for $25,000.
