National Rifle Association board member and rock musician Ted Nugent is stirring some controversy with his latest interview on Guns.com, where he used incendiary language about the rights of gun owners.
The right-wing performer compared the Obama administration to a monarchical tyranny:
“I’m part of a very great experiment in self-government where we the people determine our own pursuit of happiness and our own individual freedom and liberty not to be confused with the Barack Obama gang who believes in we the sheeple and actually is attempting to re-implement the tyranny of King George that we escaped from in 1776 [sic],” he says. “And if you want another Concord Bridge, I got some buddies.”
Nugent is not-so-subtly referencing the Battle of Concorde, one of the early battles during the American Revolution against the British monarchy in 1775. He also continues by accusing the President of being a communist and alludes that gun owners can easily “fix” this problem.
“The president of the United States goes to the Vietnam Memorial Wall and pretends to honor 58,000 American heroes who died fighting communism and then he hires, appoints and associates with communists,” Nugent claims. “He pretends to pay honor to men who died fighting communism, and then he hangs out with, hires and appoints communists. He is an evil, dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom. And we need to fix this as soon as possible.”
Nugent has been one of the most outspoken opponents of President Obama’s push for more gun-control legislation in light of elementary school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. He said after the Sandy Hook shootings last month that the “criminal monsters” will not be deterred by more gun regulations, and that these types of controls will not “fix” our already “ailing” culture.
The recent Guns.com interview is promoting the new NRA campaign called, “Stand and Fight” an initiative that calls to protect the Second Amendment constitutional right to bear arms.
