theGrio’s NFL update: Quarterback edition

The 2013 NFL season opened with nine African-Americans starting at quarterback, reportedly the highest number in league history.

Quarterbacks such as Russell Wilson and Terrelle Pryor have flourished. Some have been hit by the injury bug – Michael Vick and EJ Manuel.

One quarterback, Josh Freeman, isn’t with the same team he started with. Freeman was waived last week by the Bucs after much reported tension between him and team officials and coaches.

It’s been a mixed bag for other quarterbacks – such as Colin Kaepernick and Geno Smith – who have had their shares of both success and failure.

TheGrio.com’s Sports Editor Todd Johnson examines how the quarterbacks are performing through the first quarter of the season.
