When George Zimmerman expressed interest in participating in a celebrity boxing match, hip-hop stars reportedly began lining up to step into the ring with him.
The Game, who has a tattoo of Trayvon Martin on his leg, showed interest. “I will beat the f**k out of him,” he told TMZ, “I would not be boxing for me. I’d be boxing for the legacy of Trayvon Martin and for his family.”
Now according to the same gossip site, DMX has officially signed on.
Boxing promoter Damon Feldman has confirmed that he chose DMX out of a purported 15,000 applicants to fight Zimmerman, who was acquitted of second degree murder charges in the death of Martin last year.
“The match will be one of the Biggest Celebrity Boxing matches of all time,” he said in a release.
Feldman recently talked to theGrio about Zimmerman’s enthusiasm for the event.
“He told me he always had a passion for boxing and wanted to do a match,” Feldman told theGrio.
DMX, who has made more headlines recently for his legal troubles than his music, is ready to rumble, too.
“I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up,” DMX told TMZ.
According to CNN, the time and date of the match will be announced next week.
