A New York Times critic just became enemy number one for Shonda Rhimes.
Friday, Alessandra Stanley penned an article for the New York Times titled, “Wrought in Their Creator’s Image, Viola Davis Plays Shonda Rhimes’s Latest Tough Heroine.”
The review of Shonda Rhimes latest drama, How To Get Away With Murder, began by calling Rhimes an “angry black woman.”
“When Shonda Rhimes writes her autobiography, it should be called ‘How to Get Away With Being an Angry Black Woman,’” Stanley wrote.
“On Thursday, Ms. Rhimes will introduce How to Get Away With Murder, yet another network series from her production company to showcase a powerful, intimidating black woman.”
“Ms. Rhimes chose a performer who is older, darker-skinned and less classically beautiful than Ms. Washington, or for that matter Halle Berry, who played an astronaut on the summer mini-series Extant,” Stanley later adds.
Rhimes took to Twitter to dress down Ms. Stanley’s review.
“Confused why @nytimes critic doesn’t know identity of CREATOR of show she’s reviewing. @petenowa did u know u were “an angry black woman”?” Rhimes tweeted.
“Apparently we can be “angry black women” together, because I didn’t know I was one either! @petenowa #LearnSomethingNewEveryday.”

Final thing: (then I am gonna do some yoga): how come I am not "an angry black woman" the many times Meredith (or Addison!) rants? @nytimes
