It was supposed to be just another QVC segment on Dooney and Bourke products.
But when host Sandra Bennett seemed to make light of a black woman’s natural hair who was modeling at the time, things went south real quick.
Bennett says it was all one big misunderstanding.
During the segment, the camera pans to a black woman named “Michelle” modeling a Dooney and Bourke purse. Then Bennett says “You might look back and think, ‘Why’d I wear my hair like that?’ but you’ll still like your purse.” Her co-host for the segment then replies: “That’s right. You won’t look at your hair in the picture – you’ll look at your handbag.”

Bennett posted an apology on Facebook over the weekend:
Blogger LA Moore of BougieBlackGirl first brought the ‘incident’ to QVC’s and Bennett’s attention. She reached out to Bennett on Twitter and received a quick apology. Bennett said that she didn’t realize the camera was on the model and that she didn’t mean to offend anyone. The tweets (below) have since been deleted.
Bennett insists she was talking about the “timeless” aspect of the Dooney bag. Yes, terrible timing is right.
