Vandals leave racist messages on truck of white family hosting black houseguest

According to reports, Friday morning, a white family hosting a black friend for a couple of days found their pickup truck covered in racist graffiti.

KRIV-TV reports that Josh Joseph, an African-American man from Louisiana — went to stay with his friends, Darren and Hayli Franke, at their Spring, Texas, home while interviewing for a job in the area. The group thought nothing of hanging out together in front of the family’s house on Thursday night, in plain sight of everyone in the neighborhood.

However, the next morning, they woke up to find the n-word, phalluses, and “KKK” spray-painted in orange and black on the couple’s white truck.

“It just makes me sick,” Hayli Franke told KRIV. “It’s 2015, racism should be over. People shouldn’t be doing things like that.”

Joseph is now hesitant to relocate to the area, which has an African-American population of around 20% and a white population of roughly 64%, according to the latest census figures.

“I was mostly shocked,” Joseph said. “I’m supposed to be moving here soon. And that’s what I see on there. I was about to leave. I felt like I wasn’t wanted here.”

Friends and relatives dropped by on Friday to wash off the truck, but in a message to their neighbors, they left the word “love” intact in one section of the truck where it had been scrawled
