Officials: NYPD officer shooting suspect charged with murder

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say the case against a man accused of gunning down a New York City police officer will be presented to a grand jury this week.

Tyrone Howard was arraigned on murder and robbery charges Wednesday in Manhattan Criminal Court. He didn’t enter a plea and is being held without bail.

Howard is accused of stealing a bike and fatally shooting Officer Randolph Holder in the head after a chase Tuesday night.

Assistant District Attorney Linda Ford says the case against Howard will be presented to a grand jury on Friday and Monday.

Police say Howard got out of jail and into a drug treatment program months before police say he killed Holder.

They say Howard has been arrested 28 times since age 13 and has a history of violence.
