President Obama expected to speak candidly about his legacy in last State of the Union address

Soon, President Barack Obama will go before the nation for his seventh and final State of the Union address, and he is expected to use the time to look back on the legacy of his presidency.

The president is expected to cover such topics as gun control, criminal justice reform and immigration as he begins to look forward to his post-presidential legacy.

Obama released a video on YouTube last week that gives a bit of a taste of what’s to come.

“Since I took office seven years ago, in the midst of crisis, I don’t think I have ever been more optimistic about a year ahead than I am right now,” he said.

“The people I’ve met, the stories that you’ve shared, the remarkable things you’ve done to make change happen to recover from crisis and set this country on a better, strong course for tomorrow,” he said. “That’s what makes America great. Our capacity to change for the better. Our ability to come together as one American family and pull ourselves closer to the America we believe in.”

We can expect to see the president offering a strong defense of the things he has accomplished during his presidency while still looking forward to the future and the goals he wants to achieve in his last year, such as the issue of gun control.
