The former Spokane, Washington, NAACP president who stirred controversy when it was discovered that she had been born white despite the fact that she was living as an African-American woman was unapologetic about her decision when she made the announcement on NBC’s “Today” show.

“I don’t have any regrets about how I identify. I’m still me,” she said before stating that it had been a difficult year and that she was ready to “move on.”

Dolezal went on to say that she wanted to move on with her life by giving back as a teacher and by doing “racial and social justice work.”
