Homeland Security is investigating Leslie Jones website hack

On Wednesday, hackers got into the iCloud account for Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones and posted not only nude images of the actress but also her personal information online. The Department of Homeland Security is now investigating the hack.

The hacking attack saw not only the release of nude images but also a racist video tribute to the death of the gorilla Harambe. The hackers also posted images of Jones’ drivers license and passport, and Jones’ website was taken down shortly after the attack.

“ICE Homeland Security Investigations in New York does currently have an open investigation,” a Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. “As a matter of agency policy, we are unable to disclose any information related to an active investigation.”

The hack comes after Jones had already suffered severe online backlash because of her role in the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters.  It also highlights a disturbing trend of celebrity hacks and social media abuse online.

More recently, Jones was seen all over the Rio Olympics after she was offered the chance to go down in person when videos that she posted of herself hilariously and enthusiastically supporting Team USA went viral.

After Wednesday’s hacking attack, Jones’ fellow celebrities Ellen DeGeneres, Lena Dunham, and Ghostbusters director Paul Feig took to Twitter to offer their support, along with many others.
