Alicia Keys has been coming under fire recently for choosing to attend the VMAs without wearing any makeup. Her husband, Swizz Beatz, has even taken to social media to defend her.
None of the backlash is stopping her unplanned movement however. Keys got Tamron Hall, Billy Bush and Al Roker all to wipe the makeup from their faces on air.
As Hall’s makeup came off, Keys exclaimed, “You’re so beautiful, look at you!”

In the interview, Keys was quick to point out that her style choices have nothing to do with actually being anti-makeup and she has nothing against those who wear it. She simply does not want to feel forced to wear makeup anymore.
Earlier this summer, she wrote, “I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”
Keys says that she might wear makeup in the future, but it will be because she wants to, not because it is expected of her.
