Matt Barnes accused of choking woman in nightclub

Matt Barnes, of the Sacramento Kings, is currently wanted by the NYPD for questioning after allegedly choking a woman in a nightclub.

Police were called to the scene a little after midnight after receiving reports of a man assaulting two women as well as another man. Barnes reportedly tried to choke a woman and punched two people who attempted to intervene.

In video retrieved by TMZ, Barnes and a teammate seem to be discussing the fight, with the teammate saying, “Matt hit the s*** out this ni***!”

Before the police arrived, Barnes had fled the scene, and he is currently being sought by police.

A representative for the NBA star told TMZ that Barnes did not start the brawl and that he was simply defending himself after he was allegedly attacked by a violent group in the VOP section of Avenue Nightclub. Barnes, a rep claimed, accidentally “butt bumped” a woman sitting at another booth in VIP, which resulted in the woman and her “crew” becoming violent.

Barnes’ teammate, DeMarcus Cousins, also jumped into to defend him.

“We do not believe a crime was committed and are hopeful no charges will be pressed,” said Barnes’ attorney, Alex Spiro.
