North Korea executes security officials who ‘enraged’ Kim Jong Un

According to South Korea’s spy agency, the National Intelligence Service, North Korea executed five of its top security officials using anti-aircraft guns after they allegedly made false reports that “enraged” its leader, Kim Jong Un.

South Korea says that it is investigating the alleged executions, which took place Feb. 13 at Kuala Lumpur’s airport. According to South Korean lawmaker Lee Cheol Woo, the executions were the result of false reports, but the NIS declined to elaborate further and would not say where it got its information from.

Recently, Kim Won Hong, who was the security chief for North Korea, was fired from his position, and his department has been undergoing a purge. Kim Won Hung was reportedly close to Kim Jong Un before being accused of corruption, abuse of power and torture and ousted from his position.

News of the alleged executions come days after Kim Jong Un was accused of being behind the poisoning death of his estranged elder half brother, Kim Jong Nam. The alleged assassination is still under investigation.
