Uber bans far-right activist Laura Loomer after anti-Muslim rant about drivers

Laura Loomer is going to have to find another way to get around.

Wednesday, Uber banned the far-right activist after she alleged the terrorist attack in New York City was committed by a former Uber driver. Her anti-Muslim accusations got the attention of executives at the ride-sharing service and prompted them to take a hard stance against her implications.

In a series of tweets that sparked public outrage, Loomer complained that she had been having trouble finding an Uber driver who wasn’t Muslim.

“I’m late to the NYPD press conference because I couldn’t find a non Muslim cab or @Uber @lyft driver for over 30 min! This is insanity,” she wrote.

In response Uber sent an email to Business Insider, stating the company would relieve Loomer of that hassle by revoking her membership altogether. They also stated that her behavior was in direct violation of the platform’s community guidelines.

This is not the first time Uber has banned a far-right activist for problematic behavior. In the wake of the white nationalist protests in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this year, they also banned far-right provocateur Tim Gionet, after a driver in Washington, DC booted him from her car for allegedly making racially-charged remarks.

Uber’s chief brand officer, Bozoma Saint John, took to social media Wednesday evening to applaud her company’s ongoing stance against divisive rhetoric.
