Singer Sabrina Claudio may like Black music, but it doesn’t seem like she has much love for Black women.

This week, the singer went viral after fans uncovered an old Twitter account she once used to make comments attacking women of color and using the N-word.

After a tidal wave of backlash from fans on Tuesday, Claudio issued an apology for her “past ignorance.”

“I am deeply sorry for the insensitive words I’ve used,” she wrote on Twitter. “Some of the things you are seeing are true while others aren’t.”

“I realize my past ignorance is affecting people I care so much about and I am so sorry,” she continues. “I’ve made mistakes and while I cannot take them back, I will learn from them.”

While Claudio’s disdain for Black women has come to light, she conversely appears to take no issue with Black men and has already released tracks with Black male artists like Khalid, Duckwrth and 6lack.

Part of a larger problem

The offensive tweets were posted on Claudio’s alternative Twitter account called @ODamnYourUgly – and the name pretty much gives you insight into the tone of her musings.

“It must suck to be a black girl with no booty,” 21-year-old half-Puerto Rican and half-Cuban artist from Miami once posted. She also made several comments about dark-skinned women being unattractive – all of which have now been deleted.

These sentiments underscore the racism that fellow Miami artist Amara La Negra has recently spoken up about during the first year of Love & Hip Hop: Miami. La Negra laments about how white Latinos can be just as racist to the Black people in their communities as white people elsewhere.

Since many people think Latino is a race (fact check: it’s not, its an ethnic group that houses several races), they go unchecked in their bigotry.

Love & Hip Hop franchise creator Mona Scott-Young has applauded Amara La Negra’s stance and says she is glad people are now talking about this topic because, “if you aren’t talking about something how can you be fostering understanding?”
