Donald Glover hosts blackest ‘SNL’ ever with skits about Kanye, Migos and debuts new music

Donald Glover debuted on Saturday Night Live making history doing double duty as host and as musical guest Childish Gambino.

And it was the blackest episode of SNL we’ve ever seen.

The introverted star of Atlanta didn’t disappoint, although in his opening he did mention how disappointed he was after he auditioned twice for an SNL gig and didn’t get it.

“It’s truly an honor to be hosting SNL instead of just auditioning for it which I did twice,” he said to laughter.

“That’s not a joke I’m just still pissed.”

The talented actor then rolled into a skit about a deranged lawyer defending an accident at Jurassic Park and a musical Orange Juice Jones tribute.

And of course he couldn’t appear on the show without paying homage to his new Stars Wars role and roasting Kanye West and his Twitter meltdown. In the sketch “The Kanye Place,” Donald Glover and friends hide from a monster who snatches up victims in response to loud sounds, but a group of friends trekking through the woods have trouble being quiet once they see Kanye’s Twitter feed.

But the best skit had to be the one featuring Donald Glover as a member of Migos with a guest appearance by A$AP Rocky. In the skit titled “Friendo,” Donald Glover, Kenan Thompson, and Chris Redd play a Migos-like trio that go to therapy twice a week to address their communication issues.

For his musical performances, Childish Gambino (introduced by Zoe Kravitz) first performed a soulful song and then decided to go shirtless for his second song, where he was introduced by Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya, he debuted his new track, “This is America.”

And as if hosting and performing wasn’t enough, Donald Glover released the new song, “This is America” and video as the show premiered.

And while Donald Glover did a great job playing a range of characters many viewers were also excited to see Stormy Daniels in the SNL opening sketch.

Donald Trump was the butt of the opening joke.

Ben Stiller played Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen put the president on a three-way call with Stormy Daniels to try to get her to drop her lawsuit.

When the president begged that she drop her case she declined and snapped, “I know you don’t believe in climate change, but a storm’s a-comin’!”
