In 2018, Black folks are still being attacked for doing the most mundane activities, including taking a dip in a swimming pool.

Case in point: Last weekend, Dr. Covey Banks and her family spent an evening having fun and splashing around in the swimming pool at the Omni Orlando Resort—and their vacation seemed to be going well.

That is, until a white girl, instructed by her mother, started to pee in the swimming pool, reports Atlanta Black Star.

Banks, a family physician, immediately logged onto Facebook to share the disgusting incident with her friends, writing:

“The little girl was crying and begging her mother to take her to the bathroom. The mom started looking around we presumed for the bathroom, and we pointed it out to her … She started yelling ‘you don’t know what MY daughter is saying,’ ‘I’m taking her to the bathroom,’ ‘I was not telling her to pee in the pool (guilty conscience), etc.”

Unsurprisingly, the drama only escalated from there. As Banks’ family continued to swim in the pool, she says the woman’s children started splashing at them before telling her kids: “Come on, let’s leave these Black bitches.”

Then, the incident takes a turn for the absolute worse when the woman’s mother got involved and yelled, “Black bitches, Black bitches.”

“The mom and the dad kept walking (to leave), but the grandma and grandpa continued to antagonize us,” Banks wrote on Facebook. “You know they dropped the n-word. The grandmother tried to swing at my niece and knock her phone out of her hand. I grabbed her arm and stopped her.”

According to the Atlanta Black Star’s report the older couple has been identified as Jed Clampett and Granny Clampett. Banks posted a video of a part of the incident to her Facebook account. See below:

Unfortunately, Banks says calling hotel security didn’t help, so she called the local police enforcement, the Osceola County Sheriff Office. This is her description of that interaction:

“We go over and wait, another officer comes and asks if I wanted to press charges,” Banks recalled in her Facebook post. “He said that we’d both get charged because she had a scratch on her arm. She screams, curses, yells racial slurs, obviously under the influence, swings at my niece but she got a scratch on her arm for being stopped and we’ll BOTH be charged?!”

Banks’ Facebook account was temporarily suspended due to the video’s hate speech.

The Atlanta Black Star reports that the Omni Hotel didn’t respond to their requests seeking comment.
