On Sunday, people converged at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park to show a public display of support for NFL players who chose to kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality.
“We stand with the rights of the players to protest racial injustice and police brutality and we hope the Atlanta Falcons and NFL will take a more proactive stance, allow the players to exercise their constitutional rights,” said Gerald Griggs to WSBTV.
The NFL put a new policy in place to penalize players and others who kneel on the field on pause. The players association and the NFL are working out the details for the new policy that promises to invoke a hefty financial penalty against players who chose to kneel in protest during as the National Anthem is played.
Recently, Tennessee Titans defensive end Jurrell Casey, the first player to state that he will go against the policy, came out and said he will take the penalty all season during NFL games.
“I’m going to protest during the flag — that’s what I’m going to say now,” Casey told CNN during a promotional event in London.
“I’m going to take a fine this year, why not?”

President Trump, s strong critic of the players protest, took to Twitter to criticize the NFL for choosing to work out a deal with the players association.
The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again – can’t believe it! Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand. First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay!
