Daniel Green was convicted of killing basketball legend Michael Jordan’s father 25 years ago, but now he’s secured a new attorney in hopes that he will get a new trial and overturn his conviction, reports Sports Illustrated.

Attorney Chris Mumma now represents Green in the case after he asked for a new lawyer and a new trial. Green was convicted of killing James Jordan 25 years ago.

“When I became familiar with the full facts of the case, I became convinced he is not guilty of the murder of James Jordan, that he was not there when James Jordan was murdered, he was not part of a robbery of James Jordan, all things he was convicted of,” Mumma, who serves as executive director of the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence, said.

Green and Larry Demery were both convicted of killing Jordan in July 1993. However, each has gone back and forth placing the blame of the actual shooting on the other person. Green maintains that he was not the shooter and only assisted in dumping the body.

Jordan was asleep in his car and shot and killed. His body was dumped in a South Carolina swamp. In 1996 during the trial, Demery said Green shot Jordan. Green said Demery hot him and he only helped to get rid of the body.

A hearing date was set for December to determine if Green receives an evidentiary hearing for the killing, according to SI.

Michael Jordan who has led a relatively quiet life since leaving the NBA, recently spoke out in support of LeBron James after the president called him dumb and said he like Jordan better.

The dust-up between Trump and Don Lemon took flight after Lemon’s interview with the basketball star. The LA Lakers player, who recently opened a school in his hometown of Akron, criticized Trump saying he used sports to divide people.

That comment ignited a Trump’s Twitter tirade. Trump was in his feelings and tweeted: “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon,” he wrote. “He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!” referring to basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Jordan simply responded: “I support LJ. He’s doing an amazing job for his community.”
