When it comes to Lisa Bonet and her daughter Zoë Kravitz the apple clearly doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Sunday, photos of the Big Little Lies actress’ Rolling Stone cover emerged online, and fans immediately recognized that Kravitz had boldly recreated the exact same cover that her mother posed naked for in the 1988 cover of the magazine’s “Hot Issue.”
“Technically,” Zoë jokes, “this is my second cover.”
And she is right, because thirty years ago, Bonet was two months pregnant with Zoë when she shot the first cover.
“I’ve always loved that cover so much,” says the 29-year-old, who plays Leta Lestrange in November’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
“When I think of Rolling Stone, that’s always the image that pops into my head. It’s a really striking image of her. It’s beautiful.”
“I think she was a little bummed when they used the shirt picture as the cover. I think she just thought, ‘I’m doing it, let’s do it!'” she says, adding, “It’s less about the picture, and more about doing the thing my mom intended to do. That feels cool.”
Which is why Zoë posed fully nude for her cover shot this time around.
In the November issue (on newsstands November 2nd) Kravitz says there are also photos that more subtly pay homage to her father, Lenny Kravitz as well.
“The boa is actually my grandmother’s — my dad’s mom’s,” she explains.
