When asked for his comments on Michelle Obama’s strong words against him in her upcoming memoir, Donald Trump resorted to spouting unsubstantiated claims (aka lies).

In her memoir Becoming , Michelle Obama criticizes Trump for his ‘birther’ conspiracy campaign against the famous first family, admitting that she will “never forgive” Trump for the “xenophobic” comments that put her family in harm’s way. It was “deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks,” Obama said.

When a reporter asked about that particular passage in the book, Trump took the low road. “She got paid a lot of money to write a book and they always expect a little controversy,” Trump said without any evidence to back up such a claim. The Obamas received a joint $65 million dollar book deal with Penguin Random House last year. A portion of Michelle Obama’s book sales will go to charity.

Trump went further in his response to the upcoming memoir. “I’ll give you a little controversy back, I’ll never forgive (President Barack Obama) for what he did to our US military. It was depleted, and I had to fix it,” Trump said. “What he did to our military made this country very unsafe for you and you and you.”

Once again, Trump offers lies based on nothing but the false narratives he imagines. Obama did not “deplete’ the military during his administration. A fact check from the New York Times  last year notes that “The military budget did shrink slightly during the Obama administration as the United States pulled out of combat operations, and because of the budget restrictions imposed by Congress known as sequestration.”

That is a far cry from depletion. Let Trump tell it, one would think that the U.S. melted down all of the artillery and opted for slings and rocks.

Michelle Obama’s memoir will be released on November 13th. She has a sold out book tour scheduled with stops all over the country.
