The bullets missed the truck and hit Kendrick instead. According to police, a neighbor performed CPR and kept her alive until help arrived. She later died at the hospital leaving her family completely devastated.

“I wish it would have been me instead of her,” her father, Paul Lucas Jr.said to WFTS. “It’s hard burying your only child. I’m 70-years-old. I lived most of my life.”

Lucas last spoke to his daughter about an hour before the shooting. He said that she was supposed to start a new job Monday.

Nearly nine hours after the shooting, St. Petersburg Police arrested and charged Jamel Walker with 2nd Degree Murder for Kendrick’s death as well as attempted murder for shooting at the pick-up truck. He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail.

“It’s up to God to forgive them because, right now, I can’t forgive them,” Lucas said. “I feel sorry for them that they (have) wasted my daughter’s life and the lives of my grandchildren and my life – behind all this craziness with these guns.”
