This week, SZA fans everywhere received a rare treat after the singer dropped the visuals for her Neptunes produced new single “Hit Different,” featuring Ty Dolla Sign.
SZA, whose legal name is Solána Imani Rowe, posted a cryptic picture of her in a field covered in red paint on Thursday, along with the caption, “Midnight EST.” A few hours later, she made her directorial debut by releasing the video for “Hit Different” – her first new music as a lead artist since releasing Ctrl in 2017.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the enigmatic songstress recalled how she recorded the surprise track with the Neptunes at DJ Khaled’s house during this year’s Super Bowl.
“I can’t really wrap my head around the experience and I think more so I’m fangirling off of having a track produced by probably the most formative producers and artists for me when I was growing up,” she said, noting they made five or six songs during that session.
“I just cannot f**king believe that because it’s my childhood dream and I can’t believe that I made things I that f**k with someone that really changed my life.”

This new music comes as a relief to her supporters given just last month it was reported that she made insinuations on Twitter, hinting that Top Dawg Entertainment head Terrence “Punch” Henderson was delaying the release of her new music.
Of the relationship which she described as “hostile”, she wrote in since-deleted tweets, “I’ve done all I can do.”
But this week after the song was released she tweeted, “Just wanted to start sharing stuff… first time directing… thank you to everyone involved that brought my heart to life… thank u for putting up w me #TDE.”
