BET has unveiled the list of performers, hosts and the Lifetime Achievement recipient for the upcoming virtual 2020 Hip Hop Awards.

theGrio reported rappers DaBaby and Roddy Ricch lead in total nominations with 11 apiece with Megan Thee Stallion and Drake coming in right behind them with eight. Although they had the most nominations, none of the aforementioned artists are scheduled to take the virtual stage. In a press release, the network confirmed the talent selected to bring the digital event to life.
Detroit rapper Big Sean is listed as a performer during the 15th installation of the award show. His latest album Detroit 2 earned the artist his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. 2 Chainz, Burna Boy, Chris Martin, Gucci Mane, Jhené Aiko, Lil Baby, Mulatto, Quavo, Tobe Nwigwe, and Ty Dolla $ign will also perform. Miami’s City Girls, nominated for multiple awards, are booked and will take the stage for the first time as a duo since JT was released from federal prison a year ago.
BET tapped comedy supergroup 85 South, formed by Karlous Miller, DC Young Fly, and Chico Bean as co-hosts. As a network grounded in providing a platform for entertainment and culturally impactful art for Black audiences, the 2020 Hip Hop Awards will follow the theme “Hip Hop has something to say,” said the press release.
Percy ‘Master P’ Miller is taking the night’s top honor as the recipient of the “I Am Hip Hop” Award. The New Orleans-born hip-hop mogul is being honored for his work as a rapper, actor, producer, philanthropist, and founder of the iconic record label No Limit Records.
“In addition to music, television and film, Master P’s mogul touch has transcended into the worlds of fashion, sports, management and more that has left him consistently ranked as one of the wealthiest figures on the American Hip Hop scene,” said BET.
Other artists that have previously earned the honor include Lil Kim, Lil Wayne, MC Lyte, LL Cool J, and Ice Cube.

According to the press release, since its debut in 2006, the BET Hip Hop Awards have filled a gap in mainstream accolades that honors a musical culture. Fueled by performances, tributes, and memorable rap ciphers, the platform switched this year to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards show will air on October 27, 2020, at 8 p.m. ET.
