The 2020 Billboard Awards went down at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday night and the show featured tons of powerful performances from music’s brightest stars.
While there was no live audience at the event that was originally slated for May, but postponed due to to coronavirus pandemic, stars like John Legend, Lizzo, and Brandy still managed to make a big impact.

Host Kelly Clarkson opened the show with her own rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Higher Love,” joined by Sheila E and Pentatonix.
Post Malone was the night’s top winner, collecting nine awards including Top Artist and Top Male Artist. Khalid wasn’t far behind with five wins including Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album, and Top R&B Song. Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus tied for the third most wins, with both men recognized for their hit, “Old Town Road,” in the Top Hot 100 Song, Top Streaming Song, Top Selling Song, and Top Rap Song categories.
Killer Mike was honored with the inaugural Billboard Change Maker Award from the historic APEX (African American Panoramic Experience) Museum in Atlanta, GA. The award, which honors an artist or group that speaks truth to power through music, celebrity, and community and is active in their community and charitable with time, money, or influence to improve the lives of others, was presented by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. NBC and MRC teamed up to deposit $1 million to Killer Mike’s recently established digital bank, Greenwood.
Alicia Keys performed her latest single, “Love Looks Better,” and Brandy made her BBMA performance debut with a medley that included “Borderline” and “Almost Doesn’t Count,” as well as her new single, “No Tomorrow,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
Doja Cat hit the Billboard stage for the first time with a set of her hits, including “Juicy,” “Say So,” and “Like That.”
Another memorable moment came from John Legend, who fought tears as he dedicated his song, “Never Break,” to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, just weeks after announcing her miscarriage.

En Vogue closed out the night with their 30-year-old hit “Free Your Mind.”
