Law & Order is officially on its way back! Over 30 years after it first premiered, the iconic first iteration of the series is back for Season 21, and theGrio has an exclusive sneak peek filled with insights from the show’s many stars.
The Dick Wolf-created Law & Order and its many spinoffs has proved to be one of television’s most successful franchises. While iterations like Law & Order: SVU are still on to this day, the original Law & Order series ended in May of 2010. Now, 12 years later, the show that premiered in 1990 is back refreshed with both familiar and new faces helping to establish the revival. As Anthony Anderson gushes: ”The mothership is back, baby. The mothership is back.”
Anderson returns to L&O as Detective Kevin Bernard, who was actually introduced on Law & Order: SVU. In the exclusive clip, Anderson spoke to his excitement about returning to the series, sharing that he was ”back for Season 21 of Law & Order, a day I never thought would happen.”
Det. Bernard will work closely with a new partner, Detective Frank Cosgrove, played by Jeffrey Donovan, who the actor describes as “an Irish cop from the Bronx who doesn’t back down from the fight.”
Camryn Manheim joins as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, a “bad ass boss lady,” who she says was brought in “because Anthony Anderson and Jeffrey Donovan “really needed an alpha female to come in and show them the ropes.”
Law & Order also sees the return of Sam Waterson, back for his 17th season portraying John James McCoy, who shares in the clip: “It’s like show business decided to give us a present.”
“With all the credibility that Law & Order has built over the years,” continues the veteran actor, “to talk about law and order and justice, in a time, now, when its really at the top of mind for all of us, and come at it new, its like coming back to a great classic.”
The show’s sneak peek also features appearances from some of the biggest actors in the Law & Order universe, including Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: SVU, who says, “It’s staggering, I am dumbfounded … I think it is so right!” Christopher Meloni, who recently returned to the L&O family with his new series, Law & Order: Organized Crime, shares, “Didn’t see it coming, but I think it’s a great idea.” Check out the First Look clip below:
