Run the World season 2 is on the way, and bringing some new faces along with the second season.
Sumpter, Comedian CP, and Isha Blaaker are joining the cast in recurring roles. As theGrio previously reported, the Starz series was a hit for the network when it debuted in 2021 and was swiftly picked up for a second season. The show follows four girlfriends in New York City, highlighting the peaks and valleys of their professional, personal and romantic lives.
Per The Wrap, Sumpter plays Naomi, Amari’s (Ellie Reine) biological mother who returns home from the Navy. “With the assertiveness of a military officer, she immediately reclaims her position in Amari’s life, leaving Sondi (Corbin Reid) to question her place in this new family dynamic,” the outlet reported.
As for Christopher Powell, aka Comedian CP, he joins as millionaire Preston Thurgood, who has his eyes on Renee (Bresha Webb). Blaaker will play Phillip Houston, “Whitney’s (Amber Stevens West) business school rival who has returned from London fresh off a breakup of his own,” per The Wrap.
Actresses Reid, Webb, and Stevens West are all returning from season 1. As theGrio previously reported, Andrea Bordeaux, who played Ella, was also a lead in the first season, but shared on Instagram that she was fired due to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
She wrote to her followers, “Getting the opportunity to play Ella on #RunTheWorld was an absolute dream come true. I would have loved to continue to grow with this delightful character and having to come to terms with this sharp turn in my life, my dream, and career these past several weeks has been heartbreaking beyond words. I have so much love for the cast and crew and will miss them. I wish you all the best.”
Per Deadline, Lionsgate stated they had plenty of “conversations” with the actress and “tried to accommodate” her concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. “Ultimately, the two sides could not find a workable solution, and Bordeaux left the series,” a source told the outlet.
