Judge in R. Kelly’s child support case refuses to reduce his payments
The disgraced singer promises fans that he will "straighten this out."
R. Kelly’s attorneys report that a Cook County judge has denied lowering the singer’s monthly child support payments to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly.
After his most recent visit to family court, R. Kelly’s attorneys report that a Cook County judge has denied lowering the singer’s monthly child support payments to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly.
According to CBS News, his attorneys revealed the news after the hearing on Wednesday. The judge is firm that Kelly’s requirement to pay the $21,000 payments each month still stands.

This comes a week after Kelly was arrested for not paying more than $161,000 in back child support.
He was released on Saturday after an unknown person paid his bail with cash.
“I promise, we will straighten this out,” Kelly told reporters after he was released from jail. “That is all I can say right now.”
During his interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning last week, the disgraced singer said he only had about $350,000 in his bank account.

He reportedly stopped make making child support payments last spring. Kelly’s monthly payments were required after his divorce in 2009.
His lawyer, Steve Greenberg, said that Kelly wanted his child support amount lowered since he isn’t currently working.
“If you can’t play a show, if you can’t go out on tour, if they’re not streaming your music anymore, obviously you’re going to have financial problems. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out,” Greenberg said.
Darryll Johnson, the “embattled” entertainer’s publicist, stated that Kelly doesn’t have any assets to sell. He said that the singer doesn’t own his Trump Tower condo in Chicago. He paid rent for the condo years before.

Johnson also revealed that Kelly’s attorney’s along with himself are representing him free of charge.
The next child support case hearing will take place on May 8.
