On Wednesday, March 14th, President Obama and first lady, Michelle Obama, hosted the the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, and his wife, Samantha Cameron, for their fourth state dinner. Mrs. Obama looked elegant as always wearing an off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown, and complimented the piece with strands of Tom Binns pearls. There were 362 guests in attendance, including Oscar-winning actor George Clooney, who sat beside the first lady. Clooney was already in town to testify to the Senate about human rights violations in The Sudan. Other very notable guests included Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Warren Buffet, and the cast of BBC America’s Downton Abbey.
The first lady also hosted a pre-dinner event earlier in the day for some reporters and students. The state dinner was then hosted inside a decorated tent on the White House lawn, with an “America’s Backyard” theme.
Prime Minister Cameron is on a three-day visit to the U.S. and was expected to have talks with Obama on the tense situations in Afghanistan, Syria and Iran. John Legend musical entertainment for the evening, along with British folk band Mumford & Sons.
