It’s no secret that Steph Curry and former President Obama share a rather special relationship. The two grew a friendly relationship back in the good ol’ days (pre-Trump era) that couldn’t be denied. There was that amazing time star athlete Obama helped NBA champ Curry with his jumpshot— (yes, you read that correctly), that hilarious meet-up with Michelle Obama and the Currys (Ayesha and Steph) for a sing-along to the ‘Banana’ song, and some traditionally shared trash-talking on the golf course. What are best buds made of?
Well, it seems that the two won’t stray too far from what brought them together— basketball.

ESPN reports that the Golden State Warriors’ leading scorer is partnering with Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. In a two-year agreement, Curry will utilize his time and talents to bring more awareness to the program that manifested underneath the Obama Administration. And they’re starting with a shoe.
“The inspiration for the shoe I’ll be playing in today is every boy and young men of color in this country that need to know they matter – to their communities, their country, to me,” Curry captioned on Instagram.
This past Wednesday, Curry showcased the very first pair of MBK shoes — a customized Curry 4 sneaker during his game against the Washington Wizards. The hand-painted shoes have reportedly been signed and will be auctioned off. The monetary gains will be distributed to local communities currently enrolled in the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance.
The sneakers were designed in collaboration with MBK Alliance, as well as Dez Customz and Kreative Custom Kicks. It features the organization’s logo, and a script (around the toes) of one of Obama’s most popular quotes which was given in a speech for his National MBK Summit:
“Because ensuring that our young people can go as far as their dreams and hard work will take them is the single most important task that we have as a nation. It is the single most important thing we can do for our country’s future.”
The black and white fade is accented with gold throughout the shoe, and according to ESPN, is said to symbolize “togetherness and achievement.” The shoe also notes the words, “Husband. Father. Son. Leader,” within the heel of each shoe.
