Angela Rye confirms she and Common broke up, dashing our hopes for fabulous wedding

Say it ain’t so! Common and Angela Rye—our favorite activist baes—have reportedly ended their relationship.

Angela Rye reportedly confirmed the split to Page Six TV, saying, “We have and will always be friends. He is an amazing human being, and I’m a much better person because he’s a part of my life.”

“May we all keep loving and living,” she ended.

The rumor mill, about potential trouble in paradise, began to churn when CNN correspondent Angela Rye was not seen on Common’s arm during the Oscars last weekend.

After the two media darlings, who began dating last summer, began being seen more frequently on red carpets at events such as the Creative Arts Emmys, CNN Heroes gala (where he publicly swooned over her), and at the premiere of Showtime’s The Chi, in which Common is cast, comments about a possible wedding began to swirl.

Back in October, Common confirmed that the two were indeed an item.

“There’s a definite connection with Angela Rye. She’s a wonderful woman,” he said during an interview with SiriusXM’s Bevy Smith. “And you know, I’ll just say I’m dating. I’m happy right now, and she’s an incredible human being.”

“That’s the good thing about Angela, too, she’s just a fun person,” Common added. “She’s obviously about the mission and about the people…Just because you’re conscious and aware don’t mean you gotta not have fun. You’re still going to kick it, ’cause that’s part of me too.”

Unwanted attention

Prior to even confirming their budding relationship, Angela Rye began been receiving death threats around the time people began to speculate that and Common were definitively dating.

Court documents state that Rye had been getting threatening and harassing messages on her phone, through emails and on social media. She said that when it started they were simply annoying and derogatory but then got terrifying when the person sending the messages left specific threats.

In August, Rye received an email that said, “Yr dumb dead ass gonna be found in a river” and “Let me catch ya ass I’m put the paws on ya.”

Standing up for Common

Last Monday CNN political commentator, Angela Rye, shot down contributor Alice Stewart in epic fashion.

Stewart made comments supporting the NRA and criticized Rye’s then boyfriend Common who sang “Stand Up for Something” with Audra Day at the 90th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, according to the Atlanta Black Star.

The National Rifle Association released a PSAtouting its support of the military, fallen soldiers and their families after Common called for the organization to stand down and get out of the way of the people fighting for legislative changes to gun policies.

“On Oscar night, this is the dream we tell/A land where Dreamers live and freedom dwells … Tell the NRA they in God’s way/And to the people of Parkland we say Ase,” he rapped.

Stewart applauded the NRA’s move but that didn’t sit well with Angela Rye.

“These folks are wrong as two left shoes!” Rye exclaimed on CNN Tonight. “They are wrong. This isn’t about the NRA standing up to protect people who are in Hollywood. This isn’t about people who are out of touch.

“Kids have died!” she Angela Rye challenged. “The NRA is out of touch. They are in God’s way. Common had it right. We didn’t need anybody to tell us that. We don’t need you on here telling us how amazing the NRA is—they are not! They’re terrible, they are terrible. … It’s high time that there is an organization that competes with them to say, ‘We are not going to allow you to buy public service. That is not for sale.’ … I just can’t do the NRA PSA tonight.”

Unfortunately Stewart didn’t catch that clue to stand down and tried to claim that Hollywood is hypocritical.

“Do you know where these people are from?” she exclaims. “[Common] is from Chicago! “Like, stop! Just stop! Like, Alice, I like you as a person, but this is crazy! Stop!”

On Instagram, Rye’s legion of supporters backed her blow up.

“GO INNNNNNN,” someone wrote.

“Alice’s comment or the blow about Common was uncalled for @angelaryekeep speaking out my sister!” another said. “She has drunk the cool aide of double mindedness, unstable in all her ways. Tossed to and fro no foundation no anchor!!!!! Shameful! Shameful!”

“Speak Sister Angela!!!! @angelarye,” said another follower.
