Senator Bernie Sanders wants us to listen to Cardi B when it comes to social security.

In a recent interview with GQ, the Bronx rapper opened up about how much she loves Franklin D. Roosevelt and has always been fascinated by politics.

“I’m obsessed with presidents. I’m obsessed to know how the system works,” she told the publication.

On Roosevelt, she said: “He helped us get over the Depression, all while he was in a wheelchair. Like, this man was suffering from polio at the time of his presidency, and yet all he was worried about was trying to make America great — make America great again for real. He’s the real ‘Make America Great Again,’ because if it wasn’t for him, old people wouldn’t even get Social Security.”

Fans were shocked to find out that Cardi actually majored in political science in college and has been a longtime history buff who would read history books just for fun (see – don’t judge a book by its cover).

Soon after that interview Social Security Works tweeted a graphic with a paraphrase of Cardi B’s comment about President Franklin Delano Roosevelt: “He’s the real ‘Make America Great Again,’ because if it wasn’t for him, old people wouldn’t even get Social Security.”

Which inspired former presidential hopeful, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to chime in and voice his appreciation for her knowledge of the system.

Sanders retweeted the graphic with the snippet from the interview, adding: “Cardi B is right. If we are really going to make America great we need to strengthen Social Security so that seniors are able to retire with the dignity they deserve.”

In February, Sanders introduced legislation to boost Social Security and eliminate the cap on taxable income so that “everyone who makes over $250,000 a year” will pay “the same percentage of their income into Social Security as the middle class and working families.”

Wednesday afternoon, Sanders reiterated his love for Cardi in a video he posted to Twitter.
